Annual charity hockey game brings elite players, community partners, and local families together to tackle hunger in Barrie
BARRIE, ON – Mind to Muscle is proud to announce the return of the 11th Annual Mind to Muscle Cup, taking place on Tuesday, July 21 at 6:00 PM at the Allandale Recreation Centre.
Over the past decade, the Mind to Muscle Cup has become one of Barrie's premier summer hockey events, bringing together elite athletes and community members for an evening that combines high-level competition with an important charitable cause. This year's event will once again support the Barrie Food Bank, helping provide food relief to individuals and families throughout the community.
Fans can expect an exciting showcase of talent featuring players from the NHL, AHL, ECHL, OHL, Finnish Liiga, DEL, NCAA, and U SPORTS, all coming together to support a cause that extends far beyond the game itself.
Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to help support local families in need.
In addition to the action on the ice, fans will enjoy free Domino's pizza with a food donation while supplies last, prize draws throughout the evening, appearances from Charlie Horse, and opportunities to support the Barrie Food Bank through food and monetary donations collected by Purolator's Tackle Hunger team.
A Community United Against Hunger
While the hockey game serves as the evening's main attraction, the event's true purpose is supporting the growing number of individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in Barrie.
The Barrie Food Bank now assists through more than 7,600 visits every month—an increase of 11 percent over the previous year—as rising housing, food, and living costs continue to place pressure on local households.
"As in hockey, success comes from teamwork, showing up for one another, and stepping up when it matters most," said Karen Shuh, Executive Director of the Barrie Food Bank. "We see those same values every day in our community. As more families turn to the food bank for support, events like the Mind to Muscle Hockey Game help us keep food on the shelves and hope in the hearts of those facing difficult circumstances."
Because the Barrie Food Bank operates without government funding, community-driven events such as the Mind to Muscle Cup play a vital role in helping keep shelves stocked and services available for those who need them most.
Community Partners Driving the Event Forward
The continued success of the Mind to Muscle Cup would not be possible without the support of dedicated community partners who share a commitment to giving back.
One of those partners is Purolator Tackle Hunger, an employee-led grassroots initiative that has been fighting food insecurity across Canada since 2003. Over the past two decades, Purolator employees have helped deliver more than 22 million pounds of food to Canadian families. Their ongoing support of the Mind to Muscle Cup helps ensure that every donation collected at the event directly benefits local residents through the Barrie Food Bank.
Another key partner is Domino's Barrie, a locally owned and operated business that has served the community since 1986. Giving back has always been an important part of the company's values, and their support helps create a welcoming atmosphere for attendees while encouraging food donations through complimentary pizza for those who contribute to the cause.
Supporting the event once again is 4Hundred Source for Sports, a trusted name in the Barrie sports community. Known for helping athletes perform at their best through expert service and quality equipment, 4Hundred Source for Sports continues to invest in local sport through sponsorships, partnerships, and community initiatives. Their involvement in the Mind to Muscle Cup reflects a shared belief that sport has the power to unite people and create meaningful change beyond competition.
Together, these organizations demonstrate the power of collaboration and community leadership, helping transform the Mind to Muscle Cup into much more than a hockey game.
More Than Just Hockey
For Mind to Muscle, the event represents an opportunity to give back to a community that has supported the organization for more than 24 years.
As a leader in hockey-specific strength and conditioning throughout Simcoe County, Mind to Muscle has helped develop countless athletes who have gone on to compete in the NHL, OHL, NCAA, U SPORTS, and professional leagues around the world. The organization also serves as the Official Sport Science Provider of the Barrie Colts.
"The Mind to Muscle Cup has always been about bringing people together through sport while supporting an important cause," said the Mind to Muscle team. "Every year, we're inspired by the generosity of our athletes, families, sponsors, and community members. Together, we can make a real difference for local families while celebrating the game we love."
Community members are encouraged to attend, bring a food donation, and help make the 11th Annual Mind to Muscle Cup the most successful event yet.
